Cutting any horn, even for the experienced hacksaw-and-torch artists is a bit of a crap shoot. Lengthening a HP BBb by adding 8" to the tuning slide is more likely to meet with success and is easier to experiment with (get a length of plastic hose and use it in place of the original tuning slide). If the lengthening doesn't give you what you expect, you haven't altered the horn yet, so no harm done (other than having an out-of-tune antique on your hands).

Even if you have a high-pitch BBb, you still have remove about 16" of tubing from somewhere to get it to CC.

Although there have been some very decent CC's built from big Eb instruments, the operation has entailed more than simply adding more tubing.
