I think the repair guy done her wrong.
Consider that the blow changed the cross-section of the casing from round to slightly oval. However, the piston's still round, so lapping it transforms its cross-section to slightly oval to match the casing or just made undersize all around to fit.
So when the next little "accident" happens and the horn has to be taken apart and reassembled and the stress that's distorting the casing removed, she'll have an oval or undersized piston that fits in a (now) round casing.
