To clarify, Jamie Hafner had a Sander(not Sanders)CC that he bought from Sam Green when he studied with him at CCM. It was made of copper. He had the bell annealed by Fred Baker at the Brevard Music Center in the late 70's. He said it was a big mistake as it changed the sound. The interesting thing about the horn was that the 4th valve was a 2-3 combination. When Jamie had Hirsbrunner build him a CC in 1978, he had the same configuration made for the 4th valve and a 5th valve in a flat whole step. The valves were also like the Sander, rotors turned upside down like Bell's King with string linkages. Jamie Hafner is one of those great unsung heros of the tuba. Listening to him and Charlie Vernon at Brevard in 1979 and 1980 was a great experience.
