I think of cursing as a Vocabulary-building exercise:
why say a four-letter word that everyone else says, when I can learn something new, interesting, and clean and then use that word instead?
Cursing, when used sparingly, can have the effect of putting special emphasis on the stupidity of a given situation. However, overuse leads to a lack of meaning in the cursing. Joe seems to go for the first approach. I think he's genuinely fed-up with what he's been dealing with in this situation, and can think of no better word.
And I think some trips (as well as some tubas, to stay on topic) are really BELGIUM ;-)
