I am not a tuba professional, but I seem to have picked up the sickness of wanting more and more tubas. I recently added a Conn 20J to my VMI tuba and Bohm-Meinl sousaphone. (Got it on that internet auction place....you know.)
I love playing the 20J. The low notes and pedal tones are nothing like I've ever experienced with my other horns! The volume and projection are awesome. I plan to use it mostly as my "outside gigs" horn.
But the question is: Is this "officially" a BAT? I haven't played many other tubas (two Bessons, a smaller Conn, a Piggy), and the 20J seems bigger and ballsier AND HEAVIER than any of the other ones I've played.
