Thanks for the input Jay. Apparently the instrument the band owns is not plated underneath the leadpipe so there would be a brassy patch which could be spot plated but nobody was keen on that idea! On the older ones the leadpipes were attached after the instruments were plated so you'd just get the solder marks left underneath. its just one of those silly situations! I think even if I owned my own new one I wouldn't have the heart to do anything about it as they look so beautiful!
