I purchased a Neptune about four years ago, I first played the tuba with the leadpipe that had an L on it. I thought it felt a little sluggish and tubby (no pun intended), and it didn't seem to respond as fast as I wanted it to. I would try a combination of the two leadpipes and some different mouthpieces to find out what feels and sounds the best. I prefer the leadpipe with a M on it. The tuba responds the way I like it to, and the sound is lively and very present. I believe the capital letters stand for medium and large. Good luck! Neptunes are great tubas.
