Years ago a trombone player played for Mr Jacobs in a masterclass. There was not much there, horrible sound and this person seemed to think a trombone only had five positions. Mr Jacobs always thought positively and asked "Do you enjoy playing the horn?" The answer was yes and Mr Jacobs sid the most important thing is making music. He did some work to help this player but putting the positive influence there was the most important.
So, what's the moral of the story? If you enjoy playing and making music, go for it! The ones that suck are the ones who cannot do this.
