This teaching style is not necissarily the right way to approach any student of any subject. Reality is unfogiving enough for all the teachers in the world to adapt the concept of forgivness into their teaching style.
I belive that people have the ability to make a specific givin prctice interesting and much much more than stagnant if they apply this basic idea of thought when practicing. When something is less than interesting move to a different excercise or something else that you need to work on. habitual practice is something that most musicians associate with the duties of their job. It doesn't have to be that way. Fun practice can become a routine just as easily as the other less ideal practice realm. I suggest that you ask your student o implement these ideas especially if she is younger. If she is a college student you can expose her to these ideas and as always it will be up to her to make the change. She sounds like a motivated student so the problem doesn't sound like she is lazy. It just sounds like she is having a hard time finding the relationship between fun music making and not so fun practicing---
