The first definately! The greatest progress I have ever made was with Floyd Cooley and that is the way he taught. For me this worked. I struggled to do the mechanical thing all through college, but realize I had a trombone player telling me how to play tuba. And I can sympathize with the above post about recovering from that damage. I remember Floyd and I were talking about mouthpiece placement and I was always a little concerned that my mouthpiece sat slightly off center. He said it doesn't matter where you put your mouthpiece as long as the sound and air is good. The he proved it by playing out the side of his mouth. That was cool. Since then I have never ever been concerned about placement.
