To adhere to NABBA rules, participants in the Small Brass Ensemble Competition must use horns that are found within the traditional British Brass Band. Thus, typical brass quintet instrumentation would be 2 cornets, Eb tenor horn (aka alto horn), trombone, and tuba.
Prairie Brass Quintet played the Ewald #1 a few years ago with that instrumentation and won the Competition.
