The term d'amore was applied in Baroque times to variations on orchestral instruments that were pitched (usually) a minor third below the common versions. They were supposedly better for songs of love (thus "amore") and other more sentimental music. So: for orchestra players, a tuba d'amore would be in AA (based on CC), and for band players a tuba d'amore would be in GG (based on BBb). Of course, CC players could argue that they already play a tuba d'amore (based on Eb).

String players who want tropo d'amore can have scads of sympathetic strings added, to the envy of wind musicians.
