It is not hard to get a rotor valve out of a casing. And there is not to much damage that can occur if your careful. The problem is that once it is out of the horn you have to get the surfaces extremely clean before you put the rotor back in. I work on between 2 and 20 rotor horns a week. If a valve does not operate smooth when I put it back in, it is (95% of the time) because there is still dirt in the valve. The techniques for cleaning rotors and casings thoroughly are definately beyond any thing you could or would want to do around your bathtub. I would suggest going to your repair person for this one.
