Cerveny is an interesting example of thin (and thick) brass. I formerly owned a huge Cerveny 601-5MR CC tuba. It had fairly thin brass and could dent easily. (It was not a horn for school bandrooms.) It had a marvelous, complex sound in the Kaiser tuba tradition. Construction and workmanship were very good. I always felt the thin brass was not to economize, but to enhance tone quality. And, perhaps to save some weight------a 601 is so big, it could weigh 40 lbs or more if made of thick brass.

In contrast, I own a beautiful Cerveny 4 rotor bass trombone in F, and a Cerveny 4 rotor upright euphonium in C/Bb, and both of these horns are quite heavy with very thick brass.
