As for veterans:

A Danish baron, Timme Rosenkrantz (?), from the 30-ties through the 60-ties trafficked a lot in the (mostly NYC) jazz environment. Recording a good deal on his home studio. Being a nice guy. Making a lot of friends, among them Duke E.

However this posting is about a chapter in one of his books. TR after the war organised a European tour with some NO veterans.

As part of the on-tour-promotion TR expected the musicians to be available for "press-conferences" during day hours. The musicians agreed if the "conferences" could be carried out on their hotel rooms.

At one conference the journalists complained, that they could not hear the elderly band leader, who was lying flat down in his bed. TR urged him to raise his upper body. He could get all the supporting pillows, that he wanted.

His reply was: "Timme, you hired me as a musician. Not as an athlete!"
