I keep my left hand on my 4th valve slide. It's the only way I can get a B below the staff
in tune (BBb tuba, 2/4 fingering). Additionally, it helps out on the E, Eb, and Db, below that. It actually didn't take that long to develop the reflex. Hey, trombone players can handle 7 (or more) positions, so why can't I handle 3?
