Your analogy is probably correct, in that Mercedes is much better-known here than Audi, and Audi's are very under-rated here. However, I'll also mention that, when driving the Autobahn in Germany, it was the V-8 Audis that seemed to rule the road, not anything by Daimler-Benz.
