fed ex size "restriction" usually amounts to a surcharge (read penalty) for oversize packages. The way to get around that, entirely legit, is if you send a second, small empty box to the same address, the size penalty (not weight but size) for the single package is then waived as you are now shipping a multiple parcel transaction. For a tuba, the small coast of the additional package is NOTHING compared to the oversize penalty!
