Yeah, it was Owen Slade with the London Philharmonic. I saw him do it once in 1995 with the orchestra. I can't remember much about the piece, but then I really don't like Birtwhistle's writing - he gets some interesting sounds and textures, but the only piece I've ever heard that seemed more than a collection of unrelated "new music"-y sounds is The Endless Parade, which is a nice piece for trumpet and orchestra.
