Steve's description suggests to me a Yamaha 621 with a 5J bell instead of the small-flare Yamaha bell, and a little bigger body size but a very similar valve body (in terms of effective dimensions).
Every bit of that sounds like good news to me. I've often wondered if the small Yamaha would have a less vanilla sound with a rounder, fatter bell.
Is the body really as big as an 822? Or is it between the 621 and the 822? (I assume it's bigger than the 621 or they'd have trouble fitting a 5J bell). What about the fifth-valve configuration? Is it like the 56J?
