Back in my college days, I worked as a instrumentation technician during summers. Part of the duties were to calibrate smaller air and hydraulic acutators.

I vividly remember working on a 6" pneumatic cylinder, havling left a pair of heavy-duty diagonal cutters lying on the shaft between the yoke and cylinder body. When I cranked the control pressure down, the cylinder snapped the dikes in two, sending the pieces flying across the room. The actuator didn't even slow down.

Compressed air can be dangerous stuff. Use it with respect.
