Many of the European companies use a farily consistent means fo identifying their instruments. The new Meinl Weston F tubas, 45SLP for example, the 2nd number is the number of valves; the L is for lacquer and the P is for riston valve model; I'm not sure about the 4 at the beginning or the S in the middle. The 45SLZ is the 5 rotary valve model.

Rudy Meinl has as similar, rather obscure way of numbering his horns. The 505S = 50 centimeter bell; 5 valves; S I believe is for 2nd valve slide trigger.
