Barry,
Try a stewart stand for your tuba. It fits on with velcro and you can adjust the horn right to the proper position. It make the horn so much easier to hold and play even when you have to use an uncomfortable or small chair.

I too love the sound of my old Boosey, but feel it is time to get a new horn, perhaps a new Besson 981. After playing this style horn for 17 years I just don't feel I want to switch to the 5 valve system, although the Wilson is a horn to die for!

As for the noisy valves, try a drop of heavy sewing machine oil (SAE30) on the valve guides. Just one drop mind you or you end up with gunk. It really smooths out the valve action and quiets them down for a few days. Try it, honest it works.

Great to hear from a fellow Boosey lover.
