Mirafone 188 prototype
It was made from Mirafone and Rudy Meinl parts - Mirafone valves, leadpipe & bell, Rudy everything else. It looked like a 188 with a more open wrap and the tuning slide was wide and up-and-down instead of more narrow and sideways.
Why was it great? It had a gorgeous tone, it played very easily, the valves were very, very good, the low register played very easily, and it was a beautifully tuba to look at too.
I sold it to pay for my Hirsbrunner. It was just a little too small for the orchestral sound I was trying to get.
