And the benchmark of these, for me remains the Alexander. Most players don't like them because they stuff up below the staff, and seem to lack the carrying power of the Rudy Meinls and Meinl Westons even in their money registers, but THAT sound. To play Brahms German Requiem on an Alex F with really good trombones is like being handed a gift. And that's only one example. Some very different ones would be Weill's Little Threepenny Suite, Stravinsky's Violin Concerto, Satie's Parade, and Berlioz Romeo and Juliet.
