Ok, so I have played MOST of the literature for the tuba, but I will be performing Mahler 1 for the first time. At the age of 40, this is wierd. I need any helpful practice tips, any tricks or suggestions, especially the breathing on the sustained D. I am hesitant to practice it over and over because you gotta sit a little bit. I will be doing the old horn switcheroo, playing a large horn for the balance of the piece except for the solo and the F# in the first movement. Thanks in advance. EVERYBODY chime in, PLEASE. Thanks in advance. BTW, does any one except me find it odd that this little one octave solo causes so much trepidation?
