While I tend to agree with your action plan, I feel your premise is seriously flawed. I think Ebs are an American thing (witness the wonderful Conn Ebs from the last century) but the compensating Eb is peculiarly British. I own a Willson EEb and can make it sound pretty much like whatever I want but I have three or four mouthpieces I use, including an F3B and a Chief 3, from Dillon, a Bobo Solo, from Yamaha for a really bright sound and
an old, old mouthpiece, prbably from Bill Bell's collection that has an eerie, two horns playing kind of sound (two overtones are prominent). I have experimented a great length with mouthpieces and will answer any question I can for Mary Ann in this regard. But, if the mouthpiece don't fit; don't wear it.
