And you can always go back to school if it doesn't work out. I had my BA in performance, got tired of living at the poverty level, and went back for my BSEE. Graduating at 39, I had some financial catching-up to do, but I thoroughly enjoy my now amateur music making. I'm perhaps not as fond of my job as I could be, but neither am I bored to tears like I was as a professional musician. I also really, really enjoy my salary as a senior engineer, and the musical toys that I can now afford.
