Excellent advice. Heavy mouthpieces and giant tubas and belts around the bell have about 1% to do with projection. The other 99% comes from mental concepts and practice.
Your question was what to do to a horn to improve projection. Fill it with a buzz and have a well formed player in the head to copy. Repeat as necessary until "you" project your ideas further.
