There were some inherent problems with the "stock" engine, I believe it was a medium block 383. One of the problems was that they never put a performance water pump on them and you could always spin the bearings out of them because the engine had so much tourqe. The 69 I own is a cherry ride with the original engine with all the factory options, performance cam, water pump, carbs, etc. The beautiful thing about it is that, as big as the engine is, you can still get to everything. AND I can work on it myself. Not a computer to be found. Still purrs at 120 MPH, although it is terribly unstable at that speed even with the racing suspension set up. But, we are supposed to talk tubas, so thanks for indulging my other passion.
