Its true, the Anvil case is big. I haven't had any problems myself getting the airlines to accept it but then I always pay the oversize charge which is $50.00 each way. I suggested the Anvil over the Walter Johnson because the original poster didn't seem interested in a smaller, more convenient case that offers a repair guarantee if the horn is damaged while in transit. Of course, you trade convenience for strength with the Anvil which really isn't practical to use except for flying. The best bet is to measure the sides of the case so that you KNOW the overall dimensions and then fight with the airlines on that front. With tubas in hard cases, weight is almost never an issue. Unless you have to carry it...;-)
