Not doubting the quality of craftsmanship and design put into the prestigeous CC models from 4-5-or-6 makers of an accepted worldwide status I still am left with just a tiny trace of a suspicion, that the price level is following a Japanese pattern, where a high price is guaranteing a high level of quality.

Some Danish design goods were sold at unbelievably high prices in Japan. When realising that the Danish makers asked for the prices to be lowered, as that according to normal market mechanisms would raise the turnover, and hence the profits down the supply line.

The answer from the Japanese distributors was: If you are not selling at a high price, then the consumer will not consider your goods anything worth. Hence they will not buy them.

Have we, the parttakers in the after all rather limited tuba market, kicked our own shinbones by worshipping the high-price-low-volume-producers? Have they taken the chance to keep volumes and raise prices?

Could a consumer attitude calling for a more realistic pricing policy have got us better tubas for less money? And I am not forgetting the kids with their very valid wishes for playable instruments at a reasonable price (and of a corresponding low weight).
