Isn't the BBb the big tuba thats used in Europe, mainly Germany? Could it be tradition?
There is a very distinctive sound when the BBb is used in the orchestra. It seems that Wagner, Bruckner, Mahler and others were specific when writting for Kontrabass tuba that they meant a german BBb. That distinctive dark sound.
I thought it was only normal to play the BBb tubas for auditions in Europe. Maybe thats only in Germany?
Do the students there study BBb like we study CC, or is it more focused to the F tuba solo playing??
Very Curious
