I recently had the oppurtunity to hear Patrick Sheridan play the Carnival of Venice live. He plays it faster then I had ever imagined possible but yet clearly. While listening to his playing I couldn't help but realize the consistancy of air flow. For some reason when we play faster passages we have a tendency to slack on the air because we are too busy thinking about the notes. I'd suggest playing a whole note with your best tone and air support, then play a short fast passage using the same air support as the whole note. If air support is your problem then there should be a noticable improvement in the clarity of the notes.
