It depends on which monster sousa it is, and what condition it is in. Having seen pictures of Dr. Jerry Young playing the monster King that is in the Interlochen collection, I asked him about that horn and experience last year. He said that it was built for show only, that it was scarcely playable. On the other hand, I play gigs on my 1926 Conn jumbo sousa, and it plays as easily as any horn made, if you can adjust to playing with NO resistance.
