I was in a similar situation several years ago as my King had the old 22" upright bell and I wanted to replace it with the new 19". Since I was sending the horn in for reconditioning, I ordered it unlaquered from King to save a few bucks and sent it in with rest of the horn for since the cost of relaquering was included in the reconditioning price.
By the way, I had the 3rd valve tubing with the newer style and got rid of the water trapping extra turn the older horns have.
