University Scheduling For Music Majors

I am going to be a tuba performance major at the University of Minnesota
starting next fall. I have many strong academic interests as well as music, but
a greater percentage of your classes must be in the major subject (72 out of 120 credits)
for music performance than for most any other major (for example, math requires a mere
40 out of 120). Thus, I am worried that I may have difficulty fitting in the number of non-music classes that I want to take. It's not that music isn't a strong enough interest of mine to warrant being 60 percent or more of my classes, but I am going to college to get a complete education and don't want to be shaped into a one-dimensional person. I've also heard numerous stories about performance majors who get burned out because of the overwhelming requirements of the performance program. Can anyone relate their past
experience to this situation? To what extent were you able to fit in other classes around
music?
