Actually, the piece wasn't written for Dan Perantoni. It was written for a young, hot shot tuba player in Warsaw by the name of Piernik. The tuba player (I can never remember his name!) of the Vienna Philharmonic told me this when they came through Ann Arbor on tour while I was there. The story he told us was that Pierkin didn't like the finished product and decided not to record the piece. Then the piece ended up in the VP tubist's hands and he was working on it with the intention of recording an album including it. He gave some of the students in Torchinsky's studio copies of the manuscript version, myself included. That was around 1983, just after the piece was written.
