The 1978 performance at USC was also a hoot. The avante guarde stuff is really off the wall: Trumpet and trombone bells inserted into the slides and bassoon and bari sax reeds rigged up so he could play all of them at the same time. It was like rush hour on a Los Angeles freeway! Also when he plays the transcriptions he sways wildly from side to side off of the chair or down on one knee. I think that the term Roger Bobo used to describe him was an acoustical dramatist. He has to be seen to be believed.
