Tuba collecting for profit will probably be a losing proposition. The trick is to find a piece that doesn't just hold it's value, but actually increases in value. This is a pretty iffy situation. The only sure way to make money is to buy cheap from someone who doesn't know how good a horn they have.
I own a Gibson guitar that I bought for 750 dollars 25 years ago. It's now worth about 5,000 dollars. Not a bad increase but I just don't see this happening with a tuba.
