Here are the old emails on the topic:

..................................... I am willing to trade
a Conn 20J in excellent condition. It has a bell front and
I had a Cerveny Kaiser bell cut for it. This is no joke,
the Cerveny bell fits perfectly and the Conn is almost
perfectly in tune. Anyone who is considering an upright
bell should look into it, it is cost effective( the bell can
be ordered for (AT) 250.00 and a collar from Allied for 45.00)
and is alot better than the origanal. If any one is
intersted in aswap, leave me a note.

Hello. You can order the bell from Vince Simonetti at the
Tuba Exchange and you have to have a repair man order the
flange from Allied. The flange works the same as it does on
the bell-front, it helps mate the bell with the horn. I cut
my bell with a pair of aluminum shears to exactly 161/8" and
fit the collar on it soldered it up and played it on a jopb
that night. It took 1/2 to complete. Not bad and it works
well. Good Luck.

Subject: Re: Bell

The length needed to bring the Conn 20J down to pitch is
16&1/8 inches from the edge of the bell down. This also
where the correct diameter of the Cerveny bell is to accept
the bell flange that fints in the bell reciever on the main
bell stack of the 20J.As the Cerveny bell is considerably
longer than the needed length one must cut away the metal
and attach the bell flange from a 20J to the cut end so it
will mate up with the horn. Got it? Not exactly rocket
science, but close. Good Luck
