It is funny that you should mention "American In Paris". One summer, a very long time ago, I was working at a music camp with a very obnoxious conductor(also the president of the camp). We were doing "A in P" and to pimp him over I brought a Conn 20k into rehearsal. I told him I had gotten some sand in my tuba valves and had to clean them out. Of course he went ballistic, but it really sounded just fine. I actually thought it was just the right "period touch". However, I did revert back to the CC tuba for the subsequent rehearsals and performance.
