I totaly agree with you about the Symphonic Metamorphosis/Mathis der Maler recording. I remember the first time I listend to it in the music library at college. I couldn't believe the music I was listenin to. I went back every day until I bought the recording. I dreamed of the day I would finally get to play the piece, just so I could "Floyd" those first two low Cs in the first movement. I got to play it my first year of grad school and was understandably elated and inspired.
