I have played both and think they are good horns. First, make the decision whether you want to play a CC or a BBb. If you want to play a CC, you will eventually find that the lack of the 5th valve on the piggy is a bit of a problem. You can compensate for it but it requires some concentration and experimenting. The lack of the 5th valve on the VMI won't be too much of an issue unless you play a lot of low stuff.

I don't know about the VMI but the piggys are not consistent. If you are not excited about the one you are looking at, look for another one. Also, the piggy plays better with a larger mouthpeice. Try several mouthpeices on both horns.

In summary, if the 3301 had been available when I bought a piggy 20 years ago, I probably would have bought it instead and avoided the BBb to CC switch. However, the piggy served me well.
