Assuming that a used tuba purchased from an established retailer is in excellent condition, what advantages, if any, are there in purchasing a new tuba? What warranties do the various manufacturers offer on new tubas, and what warranties do the authorized retailers offer on new and used tubas? For how long are such warranties valid, and do they cover parts, labor, and/or transportation? Are warranties transferable if you sell your horn to another private individual? What goes wrong with a tuba that might require warranty service? Do such problems generally occur shortly after the horn leaves the factory or after considerable time passes? (Wear and tear and abuse, of course, would not be considered a warranty problem.)
