The 3301 and 3302 are non-compensating. The S Mirafones are good -- a lot like the standard models. Cervenys are well-liked too, and the only thing I've often heard bad about them is manufacturing inconsistency. They jury's still out on the St Pete (STILL?? How long has this thing been around?), but if it works for you, then other opinions don't count, honestly.

For ME, the 3301/3302 beat all of those with no problem. Up until then, every tuba that had the response and clarity I wanted was in CC (Getzen, Yamaha Custom, Hirsbrunner... the squat, fat tubas that usually have pistons), and I was ready to buy a CC tuba. Then I played a 3301 and was sold right away. I then just had to wait for my student loan to come through....

The other tubist in wind ensemble wants to trade his 186 "pro" model straight across for my 3302, but that simply won't happen!

For anyone reading this, the usual -- and very truthful -- Tubenet response is, "Play one for yourself and see what you think."

:)

Leland
