Personally, I frustrated a couple high profile tuba players during lessons in which they had my try different mouthpieces -- I always got a darker sound on a Bach 7 than on a Helleberg, even though the opposite is the expected change. And I defy all convention by preferring to keep the depth of my CC mouthpiece and using a smaller rim for F. Everyone else tries to do the opposite (and again -- all generalisms are inaccurate!). And I never gave a hoot about the backbore as long as the air could get into the horn.

Anyway, the kind of subtle changes that mouthpieces bring aren't really audible from a distance or by almost every audience. A tuba is a tuba, so pick a comfortable rim and get to practicing.

That said, it sounds like you want an R&S Helleberg II heavyweight ;)
