Well...actually...it doesn't. It's very unlikely that the problems you are having are (primarily) due to the mouthpiece. It *might* be the tuba - but it's almost certainly you. Practice...practice...practice... Concentrate on the things which should be "easy" (middle of the range, long notes) and try to ignore and problems at the edges.

Testing things in the Dillon's tuba room is a nice way to get a feeling for the range of possibilities - but my advice is to pick something "vanilla" and stay with it until there is a specific problem that you can trace to the equipment.

Of course, if you buy an XXX mouthpiece and practice 10 hours per week for the next month, I guarantee that you will sound better than you do right now.
