What part of the country are you in? There are several sources around the country for a really good copy of the yamaha 621, the Weril 680. These can be gotten new with a hardcase for somewhere in the $2100 range, and when he outgrows it you'll get most of that back as a trade-in (assuming he takes good care of it).
