Believe it or not, this may not have anything to do with where the tuba was made. The bell may have been spun and engraved in Elkhart, but the tuba assembled in Abilene. Or the valves may have been made in Abilene and the tuba assembled in Elkhart. Your serial number seems to indicate an Abilene-made horn, but that may just be the valve cluster. OTOH, the bell may be a replacement on an Abilene-built horn.

This isn't an exact science and Conn records are rather sketchy. Ultimately, having the horn in your own hands and playing it is the only reliable way to determine its suitability for you.
